My Darling Husband

Usually my husband leaves the house to go to work about the same time I leave to take Caiden to school. As you know from my "100 Things" post, he makes my coffee for me every morning (his coffee always tastes so much better than mine!). This morning, he had to be at work very early. He called me around 6:30 to wake me up, and when I walked into the kitchen, I saw this note:

Isn't that the sweetest thing? If you are wondering what the green bean and "potatoe" casserole (apparently Daniel isn't much of a speller!) is about...I had planned on making green bean casserole for Thanksgiving, and I guess when Daniel saw the menu plan he decided that he wanted to make some changes. I also found this note on the fridge:

So instead of making green bean casserole, I will be making "potatoe" casserole.

Anyway...just thought I would share.

Love you baby!

Weekend Highlights!

We had yet another great weekend!

Friday night, Caiden had his first basketball practice. It went ok, although I was a little disappointed in the coach. I am a pretty competitive person and he just didn't match my style. We'll see how it goes, I might be wrong. Caiden did great....his coach used him as an example for almost every shot and every drill. I was so proud :) I REFUSE to take Levi to another practice...he was a total handful! It wasn't really his fault, he just wanted to get our there and play with the big boys! After practice, Caiden's grandparents picked him up so that he could spend the weekend with them.

Amanda and Taylor came over Friday evening because Daniel and Eric went down east to hunt. Summer also came to stay the night. Of course I went to bed early...I am such a bore!

On Saturday morning, I got up and straightened up my total disaster of a house, and then the girls all sat and watched Twilight to get a little refresher before we went to see New Moon!!

Saturday afternoon we headed over to Ashley's for Piper's (my niece) first birthday party. Isn't she adorable??

Levi enjoyed the cupcakes too!!

After the party, we all loaded up in the car and headed to Nana's to drop Levi off. Then, we were off to see New Moon!!!

On our way...and acting goofy, obviously!

The movie was great. Of course, I am team Jacob (whew...he's a total hottie). We had so much fun! Amanda and I had a good time acting like goofy teeny boppers. As I said in a previous post, I have a love/hate relationship with the Twilight Saga. I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. I read all of the books and saw all the movies and just loved them. Since I loved HP, a friend of mine recommended that I read the Twilight books. I started reading Twilight and I just could not get into it...it was so boring! I think that Meyer sucks and has zero talent when it comes to writing...I really don't understand how in the world these books got as big as they have. Anyway, I got to the part where Edward was sparkling in the sun, and I just couldn't contain myself...I literally busted out laughing and shut the book. I was done!! So...then the movie came out. Everyone was all excited about it, so I decided to watch it. And I have to admit, I really liked it. When we watched it again this weekend, Amanda and I agreed that yes, it was a little cheesy...but we still enjoyed it :) So, although I am not one of the Twilight fanatics who has read every book 14 times, I do enjoy the movies. As my brother, Chris, said...everyone has their guilty pleasures!

Saturday night I got a killer headache so I went to bed when we got home from picking up Levi from Nana's (thanks for the meatloaf Nana...it was awesome!!). Here is a pick of Taylor and Levi on the way home... :)

On Sunday, the guys got home from their trip (deerless, I might add!), and Eric, Amanda, and Taylor headed home while Summer and I went to my friend Lindsay's baby shower. I had a good time and I got to see some old friends. Lindsay looked so pretty with her little baby bump and she really racked up. Congrats Lindsay...you're going to be a great mommy!

After the shower, Summer and I headed over to Caiden's grandparents for his birthday party. He got a dirt bike from his dad, and he did such a good job riding around the yard. I couldn't believe how good he did. Such a little dare devil!

When we got back home, Daniel was painting the kitchen!! I was so happy...I've been wanting to paint it for a while, but we are always just so busy. It turned out so pretty, and my wonderful hubby did a great job (of course I helped too :). Thank you honey!

All in all, it was a great weekend. A special thanks to my wonderful mother for watching Levi so Amanda and I could have a really fun girls' night. Thank you, Momma!! Now it's back to reality. I am going to be super busy this week getting ready for Thanksgiving. I am hoping to get some Christmas shopping done, and I have a whole bunch of homework to do. It's nearing the end of the semester, so I have finals to do, a big project to complete, and a novel to read. I also have to get ready for out hunting trip this weekend. With all of this stuff going on, I doubt I'll get any more posts up this week. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol. 2)

1. Only a week until Thanksgiving! As I said last week, I am having dinner here this year. I am starting to get nervous because since I have had so much homework this week, I haven't been able to make a meal plan. I am the kind of person that HAS to have a plan or else I start panicking. And when I panic, it' not good. Luckily, Mom has gone through her recipes and it's just a matter of delegation.

2. Basketball has started! Caiden has his first practice tonight at six. I am super excited! Basketball is Caiden's best sport. He is super talented and I hope that his coach this season is as good as the one last season. I am really looking forward to game season!!

3.  I am working on getting my finances in order. In the past month, I have incurred 3 late fees...I am pissed! They really were my fault, and I was able to get them refunded because I have a perfect history with the credit card companies. It wasn't that I didn't want to pay them or that I couldn't afford to, I am just so disorganized and I paid them a day late. So I am working on a notebook to get everything organized so that I can find everything easily (instead of digging through mail a mile high in various piles throughout the house). Hopefully we will have everything but our mortgage and my car payment paid off in February. I will be so relieved...I HATE paying bills. It is so stressful and irritating.

4. My car is disgusting. This isn't unusual, but it is exceptionally disgusting this week. I opened my doors the other day, and the smell of something rotten almost knocked me and Caiden over. The culprit: 7 juice cups full of fermented juice. As Levi would say, "DROSS!!!". I really don't know why or how I let my car get so bad...I just hate cleaning it! Some people hate cleaning toilets...I hate cleaning my car. I have to clean it out today though because I need to go grocery shopping. Ewww.

5. Amanda and Taylor are coming to stay the weekend while the guys go hunting. Yay! I'm excited...I hate being at home by myself when Daniel is gone. Hopefully we will be able to go see New Moon (I have a love/hate relationship with this craze), and maybe get some planning done for our winter pictures. Amanda and I both bought our Nikons last year so that we could take our own pictures instead of paying outrageous amounts for a pro. It's been a learning experience, but we get a little better every time. We need to hurry though, I would like to have them up before Christmas!

6. I am going to be slammed for the next few weeks with finals. I have a paper to write, a novel to read, 3 exams to take, 2 discussions, and a BIG project due. I wish I hadn't waited until the last minute...especially since Christmas is right around the corner and I still have quite a bit of shopping to do.

7. Speaking of Christmas....I have officially got the holiday spirit! Caiden and I have been listening to Christmas music, and we watched Rudolph the other night. I am always early...I can't help it! This is my favorite time of year. I hope that we get some snow this year.

One more thing...I am no longer watching the news. It depresses me and makes me feel like crap. The world is just not what it used to be, and I refuse to dwell on it. I don't care how cut off I am, I enjoy my little life in the woods and I would rather just not know what is going on in the world and be happy than be up to date and miserable. To hell with 2012...I'll be nice and cozy at home if a giant tsunami wants to wash me away. I would rather not know what hit me!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

I am starting to worry about Caiden and what is going on at school. Since August, I have noticed a huge change in him. At home, he is a perfectly happy kid who is completely comfortable. He wears the craziest things, and could care less what he looks like.

As soon as we get in the car to head to school, however, his demeanor does a 180. He is suddenly nervous about going to school and is always concerned that he is going to get picked on. For example, today is pajama day at school. He was very excited about it and had his jammies on ready to go to school. When we got in the car, he started asking if I was sure  that today was pajama day (he asked me FOUR times). I assured him that it was. Then he started asking if everyone else was going to be wearing their jammies. I assured him that yes, they would. When we got to school, there were some kids walking in wearing pajamas, and some that weren't. He suddenly panicked and put his jacket on trying to cover his pajamas up. I told him that he didn't need to worry about what others thought about him, but I think it just went in one ear and out the other.

I can somewhat understand him being self conscious about about his clothes. Unfortunately, I was the same way almost all of my years in school. But it really is worse than just worrying about his clothes. One day, we were on the way to school and he was eating a pop tart. When it was time to go into school, he hadn't finished it so I told him to just take it in and finish it on his way into school. He said, "No, someone might pick on me." What?! Someone might pick on him for eating a pop tart!!??

I just don't understand what the heck is going on. I am really starting to worry that maybe someone is bullying him, and he just doesn't want to tell me. I have asked him before about this, and he always says that no one picks on him. He recently started riding the bus home in the afternoon, and he has made comments about a boy that sits behind him saying bad words, pushing people, and doing things he's not supposed to. I wonder if this has anything to do with how he has been acting. When I asked him yesterday if this boy was bullying him, he said no. I know that a lot of times kids don't want to admit that they are being picked on, so I don't really know what to do.

I just feel so sorry for my baby. There is no reason for anyone to pick on him...he wears decent clothes, plays sports year round, gets good grades, and has lots of friends. All the little girls adore him, and all his teachers have always bragged on him. I just hate to see him feel so self conscious and I wish I could figure out how to help him. I guess I am going to research it.

Hope everyone has a great (bully-free) day, and if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

(Kind of) Wordless Wednesday

Ok, so I really did have good intentions and several great posts for this week, but I haven't had much luck getting them on here! Yesterday, I spent all afternoon getting a "Weekend Highlights" post up, and then last night, right before I went to put it on here, Daniel closed the page I had been working on and didn't save it. Ahhhh! I was pretty upset! So anyway, today I have too much to do to work on it again (homework, lunch with Caiden, Thanksgiving planning...) so I am just going to post some *adorable* pictures that I took on Monday. Hope you enjoy!

Hey Mom!

Waiting for brother to get off the bus.

There he is!

Walking home from the bus stop.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!!!!!

7 Quick Takes Friday!

7 Quick Takes Friday! I found this little thing (I think it is called a carnival in the blog world, but who the heck knows...I haven't figured all this crap out yet) on a blog that I love to read. I guess it's just a way to get out 7 random things floating around in my head. Hope you enjoy!

1. Levi doesn't have the flu...yippee! As far as I know, anyway. He started feeling much better yesterday afternoon when his fever broke, and he has been the same little monster as always. I am SO relieved...I spent the afternoon yesterday disinfecting EVERYTHING. Luckily, it just seems as though he had a little 24 hour bug. Whew!

2. I have a bunch of new blog ideas that hopefully I will get to next week. This week has been kind of weird, and the weather has made me feel like total crap. I am really excited about some of my posts...it's just a matter of getting them finished. I see how this blogging thing can become addictive! I have about 10 posts that I have started, but just haven't finished. Like I said, hopefully I will get some up next week!

3. I am ALMOST done with this semester! This time around has been pretty easy since I am only taking 2 classes and they are both humanities. I do have 2 big projects that I have totally procrastinated on, not to mention several papers that I have yet to start. Oh well, I work much better under pressure! This semester has flown by, and I am totally dreading some of the classes I take in the spring...notably Chemistry (blah!!). (Upcoming post: "Why I Want to Teach")

4. I have decided to have Thanksgiving here this year (ahhh...what am I thinking!?) No, I am pretty excited about it. Up until this year, Daniel and I have never had enough room to have everyone over for a big dinner. Since we got our new house (Upcoming Post: "There's No Place Like Home"), I think it will be a lot of fun to have it here. Plus, I have never cooked Thanksgiving dinner, and I am looking forward to getting some of momma's recipes and learning how to cook them. (Hopefully Nana T can help me out...or else everyone will be eating burnt turkey!)

5. Our hunting trip is coming up and I am stoked! Daniel is a member of a hunt club towards the coast, and I have never had the chance to go. Nana T. is going to watch Levi so we can spend a few days hunting. This will be the first time leaving Levi for more than a night and I am little nervous about it. I know he will be fine and have a great time, but I think I will suffer a major case of separation anxiety! Oh well, I think it will be a lot of fun. My brother Eric is going with us, and it will be nice to spend some time with him, too. We will be leaving Thanksgiving night after dinner, and we will be coming back on Sunday. (I think I am also going to suffer separation anxiety from the internet!)

6. I am planning Caiden's birthday party which we will have on December 6th (Oh my goodness, I can't believe my baby is going to be 8!!) The family went in on a batting cage that Eric found on craigslist for a really good price. It needs some cleaning up, but I think he is going to LOVE it. It will be a surprise...we told him his party is going to be at a batting cage, but he has no idea it will be at his OWN batting cage! Hopefully Daniel and Eric can get it put up without Caiden catching on.

7. I found a new recipe that I LOVE! I have always liked salmon, but I have never made it any way other than salmon patties. Anyway, I kind of "created" this recipe...if you like salmon, I think you'll really enjoy this one.

Salmon fillet (I bought mine at WalMart in the seafood section and I just purchased a fresh piece of salmon)
McCormick Grill Mates seasoning (Salmon variety)
Rice (we use 1 cup for our family of 4)
2 1/4 cups water
Can of Veg-All, drained (I buy the WalMart brand of canned mixed veggies)

Salmon Fillet
Preheat over to 350 degrees.
Place your salmon fillet on a piece of foil and fold up the sides. Sprinkle seasoning over the salmon and rub it in.
Melt about 2 or 3 heaping tablespoons of butter.
Mix in some honey into the melted butter (I use a lot because I love honey).
Pour about half the melted honey and butter over the salmon.
Fold the foil to make a closed packet and place in oven.
After about 10 minutes, open packet (so the top of the fish is exposed) and place back in oven.
The salmon should be done in about 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of the fillet. It's done when it flakes easily with a fork.

Rice and Veggies
Place the rice, water, canned veggies, and remaining melted butter and honey into a saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stir, and turn the heat to low.
Cover and cook on low for about 12 minutes.
Remove cover and stir.

The rice and salmon go really well together and it's a quick and easy meal. So yummy too! I never really measure anything when I cook, so sorry if you are the type of person that likes specific measurements.

Well, I guess that's it for Quick Takes Friday! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and come back and see me next week for my new posts!

A Beautiful Rainy Day

Yesterday was Veteran's Day so Caiden had a day off from school. We had planned to spend the day at the park, but I guess the weather had different plans. It went from beautiful, sunny, and 70 degrees on Sunday to dreary, rainy, and what felt like negative 50 (not really, but ya know I had to exaggerate!). So, Caiden and I decided we would just have to hang out inside. It was a pretty good day, other than Levi feeling pretty puny.

The kids woke up and were pretty disappointed when they realized that we definitely wouldn't be going to the park for the day.

(Don't mind the hair, Levi has killer bedhead.)

So my mission for the day was to try and make it fun, since it's not very often that Caiden has a day off.

We made some yummy pankcakes...

             Caiden making the batter...

So handsome!

As I was taking this picture, I said "try not to make a mess"...

Oops, he made a mess. :)

Levi hanging out watching cartoons while
we made the pancakes...

Chef Caiden.

The finished product!

The boys enjoying their pancakes (love Levi's expression!)

After breakfast, the kids watched a movie on my computer while I did some laundry and watched "A Baby Story". That show is on like ALL day, and I can never peel myself away from it! I guess that might be one reason why I have baby fever!!

Around 11:00 Levi started running a fever, so I gave him some tylenol, laid him down for a nap, and Caiden and I made a pizza.

(Apparently I have killer bedhead too!!)

After we ate our pizza, Caiden and I curled up on the couch and watched "Aliens in the Attic". (Cute movie!!)

After the movie, Levi woke up and was quite grouchy. His fever came back, so I spent the rest of the day nursing a sick baby. Caiden kept himself occupied in his "man cave/rocket ship" :)

Poor little Levi really started feeling yucky right before supper.

He laid in front of the TV watching Noggin all evening. Poor baby!

All in all, it was a great day. Even though Levi wasn't feeling well, Caiden and I managed to spend some time together and stay cozy on this bitter, rainy day. Levi is still feeling yucky this morning, and I am waiting on a call from the nurse. I am hoping that it isn't the flu.

I hope you all stay warm and dry!
